Dream Tail is an android application designed for tablets and released on Google Play Store in December of 2015.
I created Dream TailĀ for my final project in my Creative Digital Media Masters final project. The app is a non-fiction storybook designed to teach users about the subject of lucid dreaming through six interactive chapters.
Through illustration, animation, sound and interactivity the information is delivered to the user in a unique and engrossing way. The user scrolls through six chapters reading about various lucid dreaming techniques and information on the history and science of the subject.
I coded the application in Lua using the Corona engine. This was a big challenge for me as I had never taken on any large coding projects before. The experience gave me a good insight into the ever narrowing gap between designer and developer and how a good understanding of the relationship between the two can facilitate a more efficient workflow.
The accompanying 30,000 word report required deep reflection and understanding of the process involved in creating every aspect of the application. This was a process which focused entirely on the user. From the earliest user experience research (interviews and user model construction), to the final tweaks to sound design and UI refinement the process always came back to testing, examining the feedback and iterating again.
While the demands of coding and designing every aspect of the application by nature limited the complexity of structure I had planned, I was proud of the standard to which the project was complete including accessibility design and a detailed soundscape.
The application has over 1000 downloads and 35 five star reviews.
